At-risk youth are often drawn into gangs because ‘legit’ options are few and far between. Skyway, based in the London borough of Hackney, works with young people to help keep them out of trouble. One under-used option is entrepreneurship. So Skyway asked The Value Web to work with Skyway trustees and employees as well as with neighborhood youth to design a hub or incubator to help launch legitimate businesses using the skills they have and new skills which the hub can help develop.
A one-day DesignSession resulted in a detailed strategy, including a documented offering, an economic model, a people strategy, and a novel approach to pop-up venues that can make this platform available to young people who might be wary to travel away from their immediate neighborhood.
